Adaptive testing is a modern way of psychological testing where the difficulty of the questions automatically adapts to the candidate’s skill level. Thanks to this smart adjustment, the test is shorter, more accurate, and more relevant than classic tests. Scoring is based on Item Response Theory (IRT), which means each test provides a personal measurement tailored to the participant’s unique abilities.
At Cebir, we combine over 35 years of psychometric experience with scientifically grounded technology. Our adaptive tests are developed according to the Rasch model, making them extremely reliable, transparent, and fair.
We highlight here the main advantages of adaptive testing, based on both theory and our own empirical studies.
An adaptive test asks the right questions at the right time. Proficient candidates receive more difficult questions, while less proficient candidates are presented with easier questions. This results in a test that takes less time but is just as reliable (or even more reliable) than classic tests.
Thanks to an extensive and carefully constructed item bank, the results remain stable even for unsupervised test sessions. This makes our tests perfect for both online home testing and supervised administrations. Repeated test administrations show that our scores are hardly affected by learning effects.
At Cebir, each candidate gets a unique combination of questions. This makes fraud (such as sharing answers) particularly difficult. Moreover, we can quickly remove poorly performing or “burned” items from the item bank and add new items without having to overhaul the entire test.
Our item banks – with more than 200 empirically validated questions per test – make it possible to correctly assess candidates of every skill level. This ensures our tests are equally suitable for target groups with both basic education and higher education.
Looking for a quick initial assessment? We offer shortened versions of our adaptive tests that can serve as a screening tool. Combinations of these short modules still achieve a reliability above .80, in accordance with COTAN standards for selection decisions.
Our tests (such as Abalet, Num, Intel, and Anabo) measure fluid and crystallized intelligence. They are regularly revised, expanded, and empirically validated. Each test is suitable for use both under supervision and without supervision.
Cebir is at the forefront of adaptive testing. Thanks to our scientific approach, reliable measurements, and focus on practical applicability, we help organizations make well-considered personnel selection decisions, even remotely.
